Jackson is Pushed Hard Against Apolinario to Win Featherweight Title.

Tasmanian boxer Luke Jackson, right, has won the WBA Oceania featherweight belt after a win over John Mark Apolinario.

HOME crowd hero Luke Jackson was taken the distance in his fight against John Mark Apolinario at City Hall last night before delivering on his promise to keep his perfect record intact. The Australian featherweight champion added the vacant WBA Oceania title to his growing resume and improved his record to 11-0 with a unanimous points decision against his Filipino opponent.

In a victory which will boost his chances of landing bigger bouts, Jackson and Apolinario were evenly matched throughout the 10 rounds. But it was the Tasmanian who landed more effective punches when it mattered to secure the vital victory.

The former Olympic team captain had the full support of a packed venue, with the crowd saving their biggest cheers for when the result was announced. “I have to thank you all from the bottom of my heart,” Jackson said after the fight. I feel unbelievable. That was very hard, definitely my toughest fight. I’m a little kid from Clarendon Vale, from nothing to everything

Two judges scored the fight 98-92, with the other marking in Jackson’s favour 99-91.
