Kye “Frenzy” Mackenzie TKO’s Alibio in 6th.
It’s not very often a fighter comes along and you think, this boy is special. Friday night at Club Punchbowl we may have just witnessed that person. Kye “Frenzy” Mackenzie put on a clinical display against durable Philippino Jonel Alibio who had a reputation as a boxer who other fighters avoid.
Even tho the scores didn’t reflect the competitiveness of the fight when ref stopped the fight (50-45) on all cards) Mackenzie showed an array of accurate, sharp shooting punches when at 51 secs into round 6 referee Pat O’Connor wisely stopped the fight to save a game but damaged Alibio any more punishment.
This win gives Mackenzie the WBA Oceania Lightweight East-West title. His impressive record now stands at 17 wins & 15ko’s. His only loss coming to Jack Asis over 2 years ago in which he was leading on all cards but ran out of steam. With new trainer Mark Gretch now in his corner, his conditioning and skill level has gone up another notch in which he and his management are keen to put on notice current champions and world ratedWBA no. 7 George Kambosos and Qamil Balla. These will be mouth watering fights which will generate plenty of public interest and give the new kid on the block an expected large following with all boxing enthusiasts.
