Solomon Haumono Seeks Fight with Danny Green

Fourteenth-ranked by the WBA, heavyweight Solomon Haumono is seeking a bout with former WBA World light heavyweight titlist Danny Green, according to manager Matt Rose.

Born in Auckland, New Zealand, 40-year-old “Solo” has fought out of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, since 2000 (23-2-2, 20 KOs), though he spent several of those years out of the ring playing rugby. The power puncher has only been stopped once, Kevin Johnson knocking him out in the 10th in April 2013. Haumono also lost to Justin Whitehead, who won by split decision in August 2009. He drew against Colin Wilson in March 2009 and Joey Wilson in July 2012. Solo most recently fought in October 2015, beating Hunter Sam by unanimous decision (and breaking his opponent’s jaw in the process), thus scoring the interim WBA PABA heavyweight title.

His would-be opponent, 42-year-old Green, has been fighting out of Perth, Western Australia, since 2001, albeit inactive some of those years (34-5, 28 KOs). “Green Machine” won the WBA World light heavyweight title in December 2007 by beating Stipe Drews via unanimous decision. He gave up the title in March 2008 when he temporarily retired from the ring. Now a cruiserweight, Green has only been stopped twice, retired by Antonio Tarver in the ninth in July 2011 and stopped by Krzysztof Wlodarczyk via 11th-round TKO four months later. He last won in August 2015 (his first fight since November 2012, when he defeated Shane Cameron by unanimous decision for the vacant IBO World cruiserweight title), beating Roberto Bolonti by unanimous decision.

Haumono was supposed to face David Haye this month, according to Rose, but the opportunity fell through when Mark de Mori took the fight instead.
